NG 432

New game 432 is now available.

Round 1: N A U R T G C B O

I had RANT, GRUNT, CARBON, OUTRAN, and OUTBRAG.  Later checking confirmed that OUTRANG and OUTBRANG were both invalid.

The other sevens are GUNBOAT and COURANT (variant spelling of COURANTE, a type of dance).

My selection: OUTBRAG

Round 2: D M I R A U F M G

I had MAID and RADIUM, and that was it.

RADIUM seems to be the only six; the fives are GUARD, FRAUD, IMAUM (variant spelling of IMAM: "the officiating priest of a mosque"), MUDRA ("the hand gestures which are part of Buddhist iconography symbolising aspects of Buddhist doctrine"), and GUMMA ("the rubbery, tumour-like lesion of tertiary syphilis").  Interestingly, the Macquarie does not list UMAMI.

My selection: RADIUM

Round 3: Target 765 from 50 25 2 9 2 4

I noticed the factor of 9 quickly; the cofactor is 85 and so a little experimentation gave a solution: 765 = (50 + 25 + 2 + 2*4)*9.

My selection: 765 = (50 + 25 + 2 + 2*4)*9

Round 4: O L I S A S Y D O

I had SOIL, SAILS, DAILY, SADLY, and SOLIDS.

Six is the best to be done; the others are DOSSIL ("a plug of lint for a wound; a folded bandage used as a compress"), DOSSAL ("an ornamental church hanging placed at the back of an altar or at the sides of the chancel"), ASSOIL (archaic: "to absolve; acquit; pardon"), and maybe SLOYDS (SLOYD: "a system of manual training in woodworking for school children, originally developed in Sweden").

My selection: SOLIDS

Round 5: A P S R H T A D E

I had SPAR, HARPS, ADAPTS, and ADAPTERS (recalling from previous times that both ADAPTERS and ADAPTORS are valid).  After time I noted down some of the sevens that I had skipped over: ADAPTER, THREADS / HATREDS / DEARTHS / TRASHED, DEPARTS, and PHRASED.

The other eight is READAPTS.  The other sevens are READAPT, PARADES, HARDEST, PETARDS (PETARD: "an engine of war or an explosive device formerly used to blow in a door or gate, form a breach in a wall, etc."), HEPTADS (HEPTAD: "a group of seven") / SPATHED (adjective derived from SPATHE: "(in a plant) a bract or pair of bracts, often large and coloured, subtending or enclosing a spadix or flower cluster"), and SAPHEAD (colloquial for "a simpleton; a fool").

My selection: ADAPTERS

Round 6: Target 381 from 25 1 3 7 8 4

Applying the standard method, we want a 15 to multiply the 15 by, and a 6 for the final offset.  Both can be managed, leading to a solution of 381 = (7 + 8)*25 + 4 + 3 - 1.

My selection: 381 = (7 + 8)*25 + 4 + 3 - 1

Round 7: I E E L N I J A R

I had LINE, ALIEN, LINEAR, JAILER, and AIRLINE.

AIRLINE appears to be the only seven, and the best to be done.

My selection: AIRLINE

Round 8: Target 377 from 50 3 3 7 10 8

I spent a while unprofitably trying for 10*37 + 7 or 10*34 - 3, before returning to the standard method to get 377 = 7*50 + 3*10 - 3.

My selection: 377 = 7*50 + 3*10 - 3

Round 9: LIMIT PACE

I chose this conundrum after being presented with something else with a similar ending (although I have forgotten what it was now).

My selection: [N/A -- conundrum chosen explicitly]
Best: IMPLICATE

GROUT
FRAUD
(4+2)*(50+75+2)=762 (3 off) and not long after time 9*(75+(4*2+2)=765
SOLIDS
PASTED
x I was trying for 3*127 but could only get to 3*126 and I incorrectly wrote down 126 as the total.
JAILER
7*(50+3)+3*(10-8)=377
